Eligibility for Enrollment (K-12)
A
student may attend (at the school zoned to the home address of the
enrolling adult) if: (1) The studentt and either parent reside in the
district; (2) Only the parent of a student but that parent is designated
the sole managing conservator of the child or is a joint managing
conservator or possessory conservator; (3) the student and the legal
guardian or other person having lawful control of the student under
court order reside in the district; (4) the student, under a Power of
Attorney, has established a residence seperate from parent's residence*;
(5) the student is Homeless (as identified by the homeless liaison for
the Pasadena ISD); (6) the student is a foreign exchange student
sponsored by a nationally recognized foreign exchange program; (7) the
student resides in a residential facility located in the district; (8)
the student is 18 years of age or older and can prove residency; (9) the
students grandparent resides in the district and "provides significant
care for the student". * A District is not required to accept a student
in this category (a) provided the student's presence is not the for the
primary purpose of participation in extracurricular activities; (b) has
not been in a DAEP, expelled, or suspended, or is on probation or parole
or other conditional release.
Proof Of Residency
Verification
of residence within the boundaries of the Pasadena ISD is expected at
the time of enrollment. Two Forms of documentation are expected; the
district requires at least one form of proof at enrollment.
The two documents expected are: (1) a deed, mortgage, mortgage payment
booklet or a current lease or rental agreement; and (2) a current
utility bill. Both are to contain the address claimed as a residence and
the name(s) of the person(s) enrolling the student. If only one
document is presented at the time of enrollment, the second must be
presented to school officials within 30 calendar days. Failure to meet
that deadline may result in tuition being charged, fom the date of
enrollment.
Whenever a student,
parent, or guardian moves, the school must be notified immediately, even
if the new address remains within the attendance zone of the school
where the child is currently enrolled, Any change in parental relation
or guardianship must also be reported to school personell immediately.
Immunizations, Birth Certificates, and School Records
Unless
otherwise exempted by law, a student new to the district must provide
certain records. The immunization record must be complete and
up-to-date. Failure to be current with immunization may result in a
student being enrolled in school but denied admission to classrooms
until proof is presented that a student complies with all requirements.
Any absence under such circumstances are unexcused. (see health services
for further details)
If a student has
previously attended school with the state of texas, a copy of a birth
certificate is likely already on file. The request (if it is made) to
see a duplicate is to insure that state records, particularly those
related to standardized testing and certification for graduation, are
correct.
Parents may request copies of
records from public schools at any time. By law, a parent has 30 days
to be provided with such records. At enrollment, correct grade placement
is important. Pasadena ISD schools will request school records from a
students previous school and receive those records within ten to fifteen
days. It is important that parents or guardians know the name of the
previous school and the address and phone number are helpful. Private
schools, however, are under no obligation to provde records. It is the
responsibility of the parent or guardian to secure records from private
schools if record requests by PISD school are denied.
Inability
to provide a birth certificate, school records, or a withdrawal sheet
at the time of enrollment is not sufficient to deny enrollment.
